You’re engaged and ready to plan your wedding. But where to start?
Below are the very first things you need to do when you are ready to start wedding planning.
1. Set your wedding priorities
When you are ready to start wedding planning, you need to sit down with your partner and have a heart to heart about your wedding. What is important to you? What is not important to you? What do you envision for the wedding? This is your opportunity to get on the same page with each other before others impose their opinions on you. If you set clear priorities, it will act as a guide to make decisions about the wedding.
2. Draft a guest list
Next stop is to draft a guest list. It will surprise how quickly people add up. This is when you can decide how you will deal with plus ones, children, and how far down the family tree you are willing to invite. For the first draft, list everyone that you would want there and some of your may be invites. Then add it up and see if you are willing to have that many people. You can then make edits to the guest list. The next point may also influence your guest list.
3. Determine your overall budget
Next up is how much money do you want to spend on your wedding? Set a range that makes you comfortable. This is the time to consider financial presents from others. Will you be receiving any money from others and what, if any, are the expectations with that money? The size of your guest list will affect your overall budget. The fastest way to bring down expenses is to cut down your guest list.
4. Hire a wedding planner
Now you are ready to hire a wedding planner. We love to be involved before you have your date solidified because we can help find a great venue that suits your wedding and we can help negotiate certain terms that could be costly at the end. At Megan Sawchuk Weddings, we will have a meeting about your priorities, your guest list and your budget. From there, we will create a more detailed budget according to your priorities.
5. Set the date
With all of this done, you can now get your date figured out – also known as finding your venue. With a venue booked, you will have the date for your wedding and can start slotting in all of the other details. Comparing venues and what they offer can be a bit tricky. Check out our blog on how to compare venues to help guide you through this process.
If you're into beautiful weddings, behind-the-scenes, and you'd like to get married in Calgary or the Rockies, you've come to the right place.
