10 Questions with Megan Sawchuk

Let’s get to know our CEO, wedding producer, and wedding lover – Megan Sawchuk. We have ten questions for you to get to know her a bit better.

What is your favourite thing about your career?

My favourite thing about being a wedding planner is getting to celebrate love every single day. I am so lucky to get to witness so many different love stories and then turn that story into a celebration.

What is your favourite wedding moment?

My favourite wedding moments are all of the firsts – the first look, first kiss, first dance. These tiny moments are the start of a new life chapter and hold so much promise for the future.

What was your first job?

My first job was working at a historical centre and nursing home in a small Northern Alberta town. I would spend the morning at the historical centre and then go to the nursing home in afternoon to clear dishes, fold laundry, and help clean rooms.

What celebrity would you like to meet at Starbucks for a cup of coffee?

I have a lot of what I call “intellectual crushes”. Intellectual crushes are those where you are in awe of someone because of the work that they do or how they decide to live their life. I would invite one of these crushes for a cup of coffee; and that person would be Diana Gabaldon (the author of the Outlander series). She received a PhD and then ended up writing a bestselling series of book, which has parallels to my career path and inspired me to change my career path.

If you had a warning label, what would yours say?

Incredibly quiet until you get to know me.

Do you collect anything?

I collect Christmas tree ornaments when I travel. Wherever I go, I always find the ornament section of a gift store or the fully-dedicated Christmas store in the city. Every Christmas is a trip down memory lane as I pull ornaments out of the box and put them on the tree.

What kitchen appliance do you use every day?

Either the kettle or the espresso machine to make my daily cup of coffee because coffee is life here.

What’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done?

The most daring thing would be paragliding in Hawaii. But it was an unbelievable experience and I tell everyone I know that they should try it at least once in their life.

Do you like or dislike surprises? Why or why not?

I love surprises because it means that someone has thought of you and wants to make you feel special. But I also like trying to discover them. If I know that a surprise may be coming, I will try to figure out what is happening. This probably makes me that hardest person to surprise.

If you could hire someone to help you,  would it be with cleaning, cooking, or yard work?

Most definitely cleaning. I. Hate. Cleaning. I would rather spend my time doing something else.
